About me
Hey, I’m Anna Hay. I am a singer, songwriter based in New York City, but I was born and raised in the beautiful German countryside surrounded by lots of fields and enchanted forests. Since you have made it all the way here to my website’s bio, I assume you may already have listened to my music which I am beyond grateful for. Please allow me to tell you a little more about my musical journey and upbringing.
At the age of (almost) eight, I started taking piano lessons, my first instrumental love, and then additionally learned how to play the flute as well. I had always been composing little melodies ever since my fingers first touched the piano keys, but it was when I was twelve years old that I truly discovered my passion for songwriting. At that point, creating my own music became a sacred ritual to me which was fueled even more when I finally got my first guitar for Christmas in 2015. Inspired by my all time favorite artist Taylor Swift, I became more confident in my singing while playing guitar which led me to taking voice lessons at age eighteen. Playing and singing a variety of classical music, musical theater, (very) little Jazz and of course LOTS of pop and rock music, I developed an unquenchable thirst for learning more and making more music as time went by. Today, I am twenty-five and I just finished my BFA and BA as a vocal performance and contemporary music major at The New School’s College of Performing Arts (School of Jazz and Contemporary Music ) and Lang College of Liberal Arts in NYC.
In my own songwriting, I like to go for a catchy melody and hook weaved into the sounds of energetic guitar- and drums- driven genres like pop-rock, rock, country, pop and pop-punk. Especially the sound of the early to late 2000s will always have a special place in my heart. A few artists who I like to say musically raised me include Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Katy Perry, Alanis Morisette, Marit Larsen, Kelsea Ballerini, Miley Cyrus (and not gonna lie: Hannah Montana of course too). My list here could go on and on and on, but I will save that for another day.
So far, I have released my first three singles and am so excited to invite each and every one of you to follow along with me on this exciting adventure. I have been so lucky to work alongside my small network of wonderful creatives and most importantly friends and I hope that in my music you can hear the joy I feel every time I get to play with them. I promise you that there is so much music that I cannot wait to share with you as soon as possible.
